The Process of RCIA

 

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (often abbreviated RCIA) is the process through which interested adults and older children are gradually introduced to the Roman Catholic faith and way of life.  (Team RCIA)

 

Your task is to develop your faith: Get to know Christ; Develop a prayer life; Participate in the Liturgy; Get to know how Christians live. Our purpose is to provide you with the tools so you can make an informed decision about entering the Catholic Church.

Simply put: to fall in love with Jesus, so you may grow more deeply in discipleship!

 

Period of Evangelization and Precatechumenate this time period has no fixed duration or structure, for inquiry and introduction to Gospel values, this is an opportunity to begin an awareness of faith.

 

1st step: Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens: This is a liturgical rite, usually celebrated annually.

Period of Catechumen is a duration corresponding to the progress and growth on the individual. Nurturing ones faith and conversion to God. 

 

2nd step: Election or Enrollment of names:

Celebrated annually on during the first weekend in Lent. This step demonstrates on readiness for the sacraments of initiation. 

Period of Purification and Enlightenment is a time of reflection and is centered on conversion marked by the celebration of Scrutinies and presentations of Rites.

 

3rd step: Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation celebrated at Easter Vigil by which the elect are initiated through baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

Period of Postbaptismal Catechesis or Mystagogy This period follows Easter Vigil and allows the newly initiated to share their experience and responsibilities as a full member in the Church.

REQUIREMENTS AT REGISTRATION

  • Minimum of 3 years of consistent formation
  • A copy of the participants birth certificate
  • Participant must be 7 years of age or older
