Adult Confirmation
ADULT CONFIRMATION AND/OR FIRST HOLY COMMUNION FOR ADULTS
Adult Catholics (ages 18 and older) who have been baptized, but have not received First Eucharist and are practicing their faith, but have not celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation and/or First Holy Communion are invited to participate in our preparation program.
Interested adults must inform a member of the parish staff that they wish to prepare for these sacraments. Preparation program schedule takes place on a weekly basis and are offered in our parish.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES
1. Our parish requires you to be a registered member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish or have written permission from the parish where you live. If you are not registered you are welcome to become part of our OLPH family.
2. An interview by an Adult Confirmation Coordinator before the first class.
3. Attendance at, and participation in classes.
4. The submission of appropriate documents, e.g., Certificates of Baptism and/or First Communion to the coordinator of the program.
5. Obtain a registration form at Our Lady Perpetual Help Parish. Fill out the form and bring it to the parish office. NOTE: This does not guarantee placement in the program.
6. Bring a Catholic Bible to class, if you do not have one the office can provide one at minimal or no cost.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SPONSOR/S
1. Those to be confirmed should have a sponsor (Canon 892).
2. Sponsor must be at least 18 years of age (Diocesan Policy 800.4.11)
2. There need be only one sponsor. If there are two, then one must be male, the other female (Canon 873)
3. Canon 874&1 requires that sponsor must:
· Be chosen by the parent (or minister)
· Be a Catholic
· Have received Eucharist
· Have been confirmed
· Lead a “life in keeping with the function to be taken on” (Canon 874, &1,3)
· Not be bound by an imposed or declared penalty (a very rare situation)
· Not be a parent of a youth to be confirmed
3. A non-Catholic Christian may act as a “witness” along with a Catholic sponsor (Canon 874&2). Persons who are not Catholic but belong to one of the Eastern Orthodox Churches may act as sponsors.
4. If godparents are single they must present copies of First Holy Communion & Confirmation Certificates. If married, they must be married by the Catholic Church & present a copy of the certificate. If god-parents are civilly married or have your partner living with you, you cannot be a sponsor, but you are welcome to make an appointment with one of our priests and receive guidance in regarding your status.
Fee Schedule*
Formation classes are free for members who have contributed at least $500.00 to the parish in the previous year.
OTHERWISE: $50.00 per child.
*No one is ever denied the chance to receive sacrament because of lack of funds.
Special needs are considered based on the needs of the child and/or parent.
